Test your mic right now in this browser:

If it works here but not on another site, that site's permission is blocked.

Step 1: Check Site Permission

Chrome requires per-site permission for microphone access.

  1. On the website that can't access your mic, click the 🔒 lock icon (or ⓘ icon) in the address bar
  2. Find "Microphone" in the permissions list
  3. Change it from "Block" to "Allow"
  4. Refresh the page — the site should now prompt for mic access

Step 2: Check Chrome Global Settings

  1. Type chrome://settings/content/microphone in the address bar
  2. Make sure "Sites can ask to use your microphone" is selected (not "Don't allow")
  3. Check the "Allowed" list — the site should be here
  4. If the site is in the "Blocked" list, remove it and reload the page
  5. Select the correct microphone in the dropdown at the top

Step 3: Allow Microphone in Incognito

If you're using Chrome in Incognito mode:

Step 4: Clear Site Data

  1. Click the 🔒 lock icon → "Site settings"
  2. Click "Clear data"
  3. Reload the page — Chrome will prompt for permissions again

Step 5: Check OS-Level Permissions

Your operating system must also allow Chrome to access the mic:

Step 6: Reset Chrome Flags

  1. Type chrome://flags in the address bar
  2. Click "Reset all" at the top
  3. Restart Chrome

Step 7: Update or Reinstall Chrome

  1. Go to chrome://settings/help to check for updates
  2. If already up to date and still broken, try reinstalling Chrome
  3. Or test in another browser (Firefox, Edge) to rule out a Chrome-specific issue
